Yodelice – talented and frustrating!

7-04-2011

If you’re in Paris or nearby and if there is a band that you would like to see playing at the Olympia, don’t hesitate man, you got to go! This place is really amazing and kind of epic!

So that’s where I am – and tonight the audience is not exactly similar to the one I saw the the last time I was here to see Limp Bizkit – there are way more girls (thank you universe)!!!

It’s no wonder there are some many chicks around, especially when you give a look at Mr. Yodelice (voice/guitar). The kind of guy that makes every other guy jealous (yeah dude reader, don’t try to act like you’re not): good looking, beautiful voice, awesome guitar skills (the sound was spectacular) and this kind of mysterious allure. Not only Yodelice is talented but he’s having his moment of fame (2 consecutives night at the Olympia). Ok man, show us what you got!

With just a couple of songs the guy won me over. What an intro! Beautiful lights, flawless sound, weird costumes and great tunes. Psych rock drenched in oriental melodies and headbanging = Dr Black is happy! It’s not easy to keep up this kind of show for more than an hour.

Yodelice is talented that’s for sure, and, as his visual universe, his music is pretty much a unique combination of many influences: pop (you said Placebo?), rock (you said Nirvana?), classical music (you said there is a cello on stage?). Plus the man is surronded by three dedicated musicians and it’s always a pleasure to have that kind of  talent on stage. Oh, and I almost forgot: a special guest came to play bass on two songs, introduced as “Simone the Witch” and hidden under large clothes. Damn she looks familiar. Oh wait, that’s Oscar winning and super hot actrice Marion Cotillard!

Well guess what, she can plays bass too! (Thank me later for this crucial information, your life will never be the same again).

That’s another lovely aspect of this show: it’s all as professional as it is warm and friendly. When was the last time you saw an artist stopping a song after a little mistake, laughing with his musicians and the audience and then starting again, with a smile still on his face? Trust me, you don’t see this kind of attitude every day.

Yodelice is happy to play tonight I can tell…and the audience is pretty quiet but obviously swimming happily into the music.

But, yeah we need a “but”…there is something missing. Don’t get me wrong, this show was great  but I did expect a bit more craziness (especially after the first few amazing tunes!). But still it was really cool because the encore was one of the most energetic moment of the night. After a beautiful and tortured version of Talk to me (the tune composed for the french hit movie White Little Lies), the whole band came back on stage to give the show the proper ending it deserved, and they stayed almost an hour and a half in front of an enchanted audience!

By the way, can I please take this moment to adress a special “Fuck off” to one of the “professional” photographer that was here tonight. Dude, seriously, your camera is worth something like two months of my salary, do you really need to take thousand of pictures just to publish probably only a couple? Do you really need to break everyone’s balls during  some wonderfully quiet songs? You made me feel ashamed to be here. It won’t kill you or your awesome pictures to be discrete and to respect fans. That said (and forgive me for the interruption) here are my humble (and respectful) pictures.

One word : Frustrating

Thanks a lot to Lucie :)
